Our former coaching inn was originally designed in 1852 for its arriving guests to alight from their horse drawn coach at the front of the building and their luggage to be unloaded from the top of the stagecoach onto the balcony where our Black Bear now stands.
The horses, having finished their days work, would have been led off around the back of The Bear to their stables, an area which now houses our restaurant. It is understandable that the original architect failed to appreciate horses would be replaced by the motor car but consequently their plans has led to the omission of any on-site car parking..
Luckily, Wareham has since then provided the town with plenty of car parks which are all currently free from 6pm to 8am, Our map below shows car parks throughout Wareham, roadside parking during the day is limited to 1 hour.
The St John’s Hill & Church Green as well as The Quay car parks are a maximum of 4 hours during the day. Connegar Lane & Streche Road are long stay car parks, the average cost to spend 24 hours in the long stay car parks is £6.00 currently.
There is free parking overnight between 18:00 to 08:00 at any of above-mentioned car park.
There is an APP you can download onto your mobile phone JustPark, this has all the Wareham car parks by number the payment is online, so you don’t have to worry about needing change for the machines.
